About Us

Old wisdom, gathered with care.

Hazel's Apothecary is a small library of natural-remedy guides, gathered for people who want simpler ways to feel better — without chasing every wellness trend on the internet.

We make books about the things our grandmothers knew: which foods calm an aching gut, which plants ease a restless night, which old habits keep the body limber into later life. Knowledge that used to pass between kitchens and gardens, written down in one place so a modern reader can find it.

A note about Hazel

Hazel Whitfield is a pen name. We want to be straightforward about that, because we think you deserve to know who you're buying from.

Hazel is the editorial voice behind our books — the curatorial identity that brings together research, traditional knowledge, and practical guidance into something you can actually use. She's the name on the cover for the same reason "Penguin Classics" is on a book of Jane Austen: it signals who curated it, who's responsible for the quality, who stands behind it.

Behind Hazel is a small team that researches, writes, edits, and tests. We use a pen name because we want our work judged on its own merits — not on who we are, what credentials we hold, or what algorithm decides we deserve to be heard. We think the books should speak for themselves.

What we believe

That you're smart enough to make your own decisions about your body and your home. Our books give you the information; you decide what to do with it.

That the old ways still have something to teach. Long before pharmacies, people had cupboards. The remedies our grandmothers reached for didn't all disappear because they stopped working — many of them disappeared because they couldn't be patented.

That nothing replaces a good doctor. Our books are educational. If you're sick, see a professional. If you're on medication, talk to your pharmacist before adding anything. If you're pregnant, breastfeeding, or caring for a child, be doubly careful. Natural doesn't mean harmless.

That clear, useful information shouldn't cost a fortune. We keep our prices low on purpose. We'd rather have a thousand readers who actually use the books than a hundred who paid more and put them on a shelf.

What we are not

We're not doctors. We're not chemists. We're not herbalists with twenty years in a hillside village. Anyone telling you a story like that on a wellness website is, usually, telling you a story.

We're researchers and writers who care about getting the details right. We read studies, we read history, we read the older books that the older generation wrote down before the internet existed. Then we write what we find in a way you can actually read on a Tuesday evening.

The books are not a substitute for medical advice. They are not a substitute for thinking carefully about your own situation. They're a resource — a friendly, well-organized resource — for people who want to take a more active role in caring for themselves and the people they love.

Behind the scenes

Hazel's Apothecary is operated by META STORES LLC, a small business registered in New Mexico, United States. We're not a venture-backed wellness brand and we don't take money from supplement companies or anyone else with something to sell. The books are the product. That's the whole business.

If you have questions, complaints, suggestions, or just want to say hello, we read every email that comes in:
